Instruction writing

What would you do if you had to explain to a robot how to make a jam sandwich?

Well, of course, you would write it a set of instructions (also known as an algorithm) to explain to the robot how to do it.

Mrs Morris pretender to be a ‘jambot’ and let the children give her instructions on how to make a jam sandwich. But she went a bit wrong because the instructions were not clear and precise enough. The class soon realised that instructions have to be simple, clear, direct and in the correct order.

They then wrote a set of instructions to explain how to make a jam sandwich. Many used numbers or arrows to order the instructions, and everyone remembered to use bossy words like put, turn, spread to start their instructions.

Here are a few of us following our instructions to make our own jam sandwich. Were your instructions easy to follow? We had good fun making and eating our sandwiches!!
